In the morning, on arrival at Chiang Rai International Airport, the driver will be waiting to transfer you to Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp and Resort. Perched on a ridge in northern Thailand overlooking the border with Myanmar and Laos, Anantara Golden Triangle immerses you in once-in-a-lifetime jungle adventures and experiences. It also gives you the opportunity to bond with elephants, as the resort is home to an award-winning elephant camp, which sets a benchmark for elephant welfare in Thailand.

After lunch, visit the Hall of Opium Museum which is located just opposite the resort. A combination of multimedia and exhibition, the modern museum aims to educate people about opium in a fun and interesting environment. The eye-opening institution portrays every angle of the mysterious world of opium, including the history of the Golden Triangle, the origin of opium, the opium war, opium warlords, drug smugglers, opium effects, the battle against opium and poppy growing. The museum also explores the impact that opium seed has had on the Golden Triangle and the people who live in this former worldwide drug trading zone.

Chiang Rai

After breakfast, you will get the unique and long-awaited opportunity to meet the elephants and observe and connect with them in their natural environment. The resort’s elephant camp is home to rescued, orphaned and abandoned elephants and the mahouts who take care of them. The camp has been designed along the lines of the traditional mahouts’ villages found in the hills of Northern Thailand in the days when logging employed the majority of Thailand’s elephants.

Together with the elephants and their mahouts set off on an exploration into the jungle on their daily walk. Admire these gentle giants as they splash in the river or play in the mud, snack on leaves from nearby branches and socialise with the herd. Throughout the nature walk, the mahouts will offer insights into elephant biology, behaviour and conservation. After lunch, the afternoon is at leisure. You could spend some time swimming in the stunning infinity pool; book an indulgent treatment or massage in the spa; or just relax and enjoy the view of the convergence of two rivers and three countries — Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.
